Kenya and Tanzania have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations following talks in Dar es Salaam between Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, and Kenya’s newly appointed Consul General to Tanzania, Mohamed Ramadhan Ruwange.
The meeting, held during the presentation of the Consul General’s credentials at the Ministry’s sub-office, covered a broad range of diplomatic and bilateral cooperation matters. Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening the long-standing historical ties between the two countries and agreed to maintain joint consultations to address challenges that may arise in deepening cooperation.
Kombo congratulated Ruwange on his appointment and assured him of Tanzania’s full cooperation throughout his tenure. Ruwange in turn expressed appreciation for the existing cordial relations and pledged to strengthen cooperation across trade, investment, aviation, infrastructure and tourism, alongside agriculture, information and communication technology, livestock, fisheries, education, energy, defence and security.
The breadth of sectors discussed reflects the depth of economic and social interdependence between two of East Africa’s most important neighbours, a relationship that, despite periodic trade tensions, remains one of the most consequential bilateral partnerships in the region.
