In the halls of Eswatini’s Private and Cabinet offices, a quiet yet transformative diplomatic movement unfolded as Prime Minister Russell Dlamini welcomed the Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to the Kingdom of Eswatini, CP Hamad Khamis Hamad. Coming just a month after Ambassador Hamad formally presented his letters of credence to His Majesty King Mswati III, the high-level meeting underscored a shared vision to turn longstanding political goodwill into tangible economic growth.
At the center of their dialogue was a joint commitment to expand cooperation across trade, investment, education, tourism, and politics. The timing of these talks holds strategic significance, taking place as Eswatini steps into the Chairmanship of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation (Troika). As fellow members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU), both nations view their partnership as an essential anchor for regional stability and economic integration.
Crucially, this diplomatic momentum aligns with a broader movement sweeping across Southern Africa, where regional powerhouses including Botswana, are demonstrating the transformative power of modern agricultural reform. Botswana’s bold investments in climate-resilient farming, livestock innovation, and sustainable land management serve as a compelling framework for its regional neighbors. As Eswatini and Tanzania evaluate avenues to bolster their food security and agribusiness value chains, Botswana’s agricultural strides highlight how targeted regional investment can build resilient economies capable of withstanding climate volatility.
Ambassador Hamad emphasized that Tanzania attaches immense value to its enduring friendship with Eswatini, grounded in a shared vision for continental development.
“We are encouraged by the cordial relations that exist between our two countries and remain committed to further strengthening these bonds through enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, agriculture, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges,” stated Ambassador Hamad.
He highlighted that under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Tanzania continues to pursue a progressive agenda centered on economic transformation, infrastructure expansion, and regional connectivity. By aligning these national strategies with continental frameworks like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), both nations aim to unlock new markets, accelerate cross-border investment, and foster sustainable prosperity for their people.
