Nairobi, Kenya: The Kenyan government has temporarily lifted a ban on the export of raw macadamia nuts, allowing a 30-day window for the sale and export of surplus stocks.
The decision, announced by Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Andrew Karanja, comes after an assessment by the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) revealed excess stockpiles held by licensed processors and exporters.
“The intervention will enable verified stocks being held by various exporters to be cleared for export,” Karanja said in a statement.
Kenya is a significant player in the global macadamia market, ranking third behind South Africa and Australia in terms of nut-in-shell and kernel exports. By temporarily lifting the ban, the government aims to facilitate the clearance of surplus stock and support the country’s macadamia industry.
