Makueni, Kenya — Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. today commissioned the Yumbuni Borehole Water Project in Nguu/Masumba Ward, a joint initiative aimed at alleviating water scarcity in the arid region. The project, a collaboration between the County Government of Makueni, the local community, and German non-profit Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH), is part of a broader strategy to achieve universal water coverage.
The partnership with WHH has been instrumental in the county’s Last Mile Water Connectivity program. Since August 2022, WHH has completed 14 water projects, with two additional projects slated for implementation before July 2026. This initiative addresses the long-standing challenge of clean and reliable water access for residents.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by key county officials, including Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, and Water CEC Eng. John Kieti, underscoring the government’s commitment to the project. The collaboration highlights a public-private partnership model to drive infrastructure development and improve living standards in the region.
