Two of Africa’s most strategically positioned economies have formalised a wide-ranging bilateral partnership, with Kenya and Morocco signing 11 agreements spanning trade, investment, health, education, and maritime development, a result that signals both countries are serious about converting diplomatic goodwill into commercial outcomes.
The agreements were signed in Nairobi at the inaugural Kenya-Morocco Joint Commission for Cooperation by Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita. The sectors covered range from agriculture, fisheries and the blue economy to gender empowerment, wildlife management, scholarships and immigration, a breadth that reflects the ambition both sides are bringing to the relationship.
Mudavadi was direct about what he expects next. “I emphasised the need for effective implementation and monitoring to ensure these agreements translate into real impact,” said Mudavadi, signalling that the focus will now shift from signing to delivery.
Principal Secretary Korir SingOei noted that the JCC provides a structured framework to deepen cooperation and unlock new growth opportunities, whilst Moroccan Ambassador Abderrazzak Laassel described the agreements as an opportunity to convert longstanding mutual respect into enhanced institutional cooperation. Kenya’s Ambassador to Morocco, Jessica Gakinya, highlighted ICT, trade, investment and air connectivity as priority areas for accelerated collaboration under the new framework.
