Dar es Salaam – The Tanzanian government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the sugar industry, assuring investors of a conducive business environment.

Speaking at the launch of a new sugar factory in Kilosa, Morogoro, Industry, Trade and Investment Minister Kitila Mkumbo emphasized the government’s dedication to creating an enabling environment for the sector to thrive.

“The sugar industry plays a pivotal role in our economy, providing employment opportunities and contributing to rural development,” Minister Mkumbo stated. “We are committed to providing the necessary support to ensure the industry’s continued growth and success.”

The newly established factory, with a daily production capacity of 2,000 tons of sugar, is expected to significantly boost the country’s sugar output and reduce dependence on imports.

Investor confidence in Tanzania’s sugar sector has been on the rise, with several new projects in the pipeline. The government’s assurance of support is seen as a major catalyst for further investment and development.

“We are encouraged by the government’s commitment to the sugar industry,” said a representative of the factory’s investors. “This support provides us with the confidence to invest in Tanzania and contribute to the country’s economic growth.”

The government’s pledge also comes at a time when the global sugar market is facing challenges. By creating a stable and supportive environment, Tanzania aims to position itself as a key player in the regional sugar industry.

In addition to providing policy support, the government is also working to address infrastructure challenges that have hampered the growth of the sugar sector. Investments in roads, railways, and energy infrastructure are expected to improve the efficiency of sugar production and transportation.

The launch of the new sugar factory marks a significant milestone for Tanzania’s sugar industry. With the government’s unwavering support, the sector is poised for continued growth and prosperity.
