TBL’s Investments Fuel Tanzania’s Economic Growth – Update

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL), a subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev, is emerging as a key driver of Tanzania’s economic resilience, with its investments and community programs extending far beyond its core business.

With Tanzania consistently ranked among the world’s fastest-growing economies, private sector players like TBL are leveraging their footprint to spur growth. Since its founding in 1933, the company has grown into a major economic pillar, generating ripple effects through job creation, agricultural partnerships, and community development.

The brewer’s commitment to the local economy is particularly evident in the agriculture sector. TBL has cultivated long-standing partnerships with more than 2,500 local sorghum and barley farmers, providing them with training, financing, and a guaranteed market. This initiative supports a sector that employs nearly 60% of Tanzanians and contributes significantly to the country’s GDP.

TBL’s influence is also felt in the small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector. Its BEES digital platform provides a vital lifeline to over 9,000 SMEs monthly, offering access to markets that would otherwise be out of reach. Additionally, the company has trained 25,000 retailers in finance, technology, and business management, fostering a more robust business ecosystem.

Recognizing the country’s pressing environmental challenges, TBL has also stepped into the realm of water security. In 2025, the company partnered with WWF-Tanzania on the Dar es Salaam Water Security Project, a three-year initiative aimed at restoring critical river ecosystems. This effort is particularly crucial as rapid urbanization places immense pressure on water resources, with a significant portion of the population still lacking reliable access to clean water.

Through these diverse initiatives, TBL is demonstrating its role not just as a beverage company but as a key stakeholder in Tanzania’s economic and social development.
