Kampala, Uganda – Uganda and Vietnam are strengthening their bilateral relationship, with discussions focused on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, and agriculture. The commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting between Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, and Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Anh Tuan.
The meeting follows the historic state visit by Uganda’s president to Vietnam in November 2022. During the recent discussions, Ambassador-designate H.E. Vu Than Huyen presented her Letters of Credence, formalizing her diplomatic role.
The two nations agreed to pursue joint ventures and finalize cooperation agreements, particularly in the agricultural and fisheries sectors. Vietnam also sought Uganda’s support for its candidacy in international forums and invited the country to participate in the upcoming signing of the UN “Hanoi Convention” against cybercrime.
Both sides emphasized their shared values and strong partnership within multilateral frameworks like the Non-Aligned Movement. They committed to maintaining close diplomatic engagement to follow up on the agreed-upon areas of cooperation.
